LOST Season 4 Finale

....My vehicle license plate..season.. 4 LOST

...at the beach one day on Oahu......

Well as some of you may or may not know I was cast on an episode of LOST this past season. Episode 4 of the 4th season. (Lost 404) Originally cast as Assistant DA for Los Angles County. I guess I just got lucky. Funny, because I come with a family backgound in law and I've always wanted to carry on that tradition, so I finally get my shot?? Here's how it happened and went down;

On the set of LOST season 4 episode 04... Los Angles Courtroom scenes.
Downtown Honolulu YMCA on Richards Street
Next to the Hawaiian Royal Palace.

I replied to an ad on Craigslist posted by Grass Skirt Productions GSP (Lost is ABC TV in conjunction with GSP in Honolulu). However the ad was for blond babies. They needed an older "Aaron" to play in a flash forward scene with "Kate"(Evangeline Lilly). But I sent in my pictures and bio just for the hell of it. I get a response the following morning from casting director Julie. She says that the ad and email were normally reserved for casting young newborns and babies. But she forwarded my info and pictures to directors etc for their upcoming casting meetings and they liked my look for Asst. DA. (said I had a California guy look) I would be a featured extra with no speaking role. Role would have me sitting at DA table next to "Kate" who was on trial for all the crimes she committed prior to landing on island. (very bad girl)

....Wm Patrick McLain Jr. Esq.

This was a flash forward scene. Myself and 2 other guys along with Mat Fox, Eve Lilly and two other guest stars were sent into the set ahead of the other extras who were in a "holding" room down the hall. We were briefed on scenes and lighting. Here's where my "15 minutes" of fame took a turn!!

After the walk through with different camera angles etc...the associate producer asked to switch me out and put someone else in my spot because they really wanted a California looking lawyer at the table. I thought I had the look but they replaced me with a Spanish looking guy with dark hair and skin. I don't even think this extra spoke English either! Oh well, so I get pushed out of my "featured extra" role to background extra in the gallery. On top of this I was scheduled to be in California visiting family and attending the Notre Dame vs UCLA football game but casting director asked if I could cancel or change my plans and stay in Honolulu for the 3 days of filming. I said no problem but after I got bumped from my featured role I was totally pissed. I gave away my football tickets, still haven't used my airline ticket and now I'm not even going to be seen on TV! Bummer! But I keep my chin up and decide to soak in the experience on being involved with a top rated show.

Filming starts early in the morning. I don't drink coffee so I know I look hung over or dead. Until they turn on the set lights and say action! It was totally cool to be sitting behind "Kate" and watching her and Mat Fox (Jack) work the scenes. The whole production is amazing and to witness first hand the behind the scenes is really cool and I hope I have the opportunity to do it again soon! The court room scene was filmed in downtown Honolulu at the YMCA. This YMCA was also used a few times later in the season and portrayed as a Mediterranean Resort. In the episode you can see me in the background over Kate's shoulder. I am the tannest guy in the gallery. Some scenes I'm standing in the back of court room and another scene I'm sitting off to the left. Oh well, not what I was hoping but I really enjoyed the experience. I have stayed in contact with casting director. She has called me a few times and I told her I'm available anytime. LOST only has two season remaining. Filming starts again in August for season 5 which will air in Jan 09. Then again filming starts in Aug 09 for season 6 airing Jan 2010.

I was able to walk to lunch with Eve Lilly (Kate) and chatted with her for awhile. No comment.

I met Matthew Fox on the set in between our scenes. What a really nice guy. Total professional.

Although Jorge Garcia (Hugo/Hurley) wasn't involved in our scenes, I met him at my friends party. He went out of his way to come and say hi to me. Jorge is really laid back totally cool dude!! I also stopped the film office to drop off some paper work and noticed the Hurley's blue van's that were featured in season 3. Famous scene of him riding down a grassy hillside enjoying some beers with "Charlie, Sawyer & Jin".

Well, for any of you LOST fans out there, don't forget the season finale is Thursday. 8pm Hawaii time. 2 hour season 4 finale should reveal some serious secrets, it will be a stunner. I am aware of somethings that may happen but I was sworn to secrecy by signing waivers etc...

Cast and Crew of LOST are really amazing nice people. It really is a controlled chaos production. Amazing how they pull the show off by filming 100% in Hawaii. They send the film, yes film, to LA every week and the editors take it from there. This is a film production and not video. They go through tons of film while shooting. The film canisters only last about 10-12 minutes then they have to stop and switch out the canisters. The scenes I was in took almost 3 days of shooting. The final cut was only about 3-4 minutes of courtroom scenes!

Enjoy the images. Sorry no images of the stars. I tried but they treathen to send the island smoke monster after me!! hahaha!

Wow! Hawaii is THE place to be. I LOVE Lost! I think I even have an old post about it. I didn't realize I was going to have to wait until January again for the next season. Bummer. The finale was AWESOME! I'm usually in bed by 9pm, but I stayed up, couldn't wait until Friday to watch it on Tivo. Now I have to go see if I have that episode of the flash forward you are in. You are way too cool!

Oh my god. I'm drooling. Seriously, you lived my fantasy. Even if you didn't actually appear on screen, you got to be involved with the production of the best show EVER!
Congrats on getting cast, even if it didn't quite turn out as you might have hoped.
