Before my morning Ali'i Drive 7 mile run I weighed myself. At 530am it read 142lbs of muscle! (LOL) All I wanted to do was monitor how much I lost during the morning activity. However, after my run I went off for a hike with a good friend. A hike I"ve never been on before. I had ridden my bike in the area before but never hiked up and down the 10,000foot crevasse! (okay it was only 2000ft of decent) But it was a beautiful day for a hike or workout...which ever term you desire! Already legs felt good from my early morning 7 mile speed work but then I'm confronted with a nice challenge. Bring it on.
(If only my friend wasn't such a "princess" during this workout. Ahhh the things I put up with!)
So, Weight Loss 101....take a hike! Here are some images of Hawaii hikes both on Oahu and Big Island. "Lucky we live Hawaii."
Get outdoors everyday and take a deep breath and listen to the deafening silence on a lone lava path down to the sea or a slippery slope up to the clouds!
Whether rain forest or desert heat, cold toes on Mauna Kea or melting shoes in the Volcano. The power of Mother Nature is profound. Inhale the awe inspiring sights & sounds by your self or share the experience with a good friend.
Listen as you scroll down through the images you just may hear; the cracking & snapping of fresh lava, singing of rare exotic birds, dew drops dripping to a slick fern leaf, ruffles in the nearby brush as the breeze hums across your path, crunching of tropical snow between your flip flops, rumble of the sea as it meets the stern lava cliffs, swaying bamboo trees leaning overhead and your friend softly whispering, "how wonderful & lucky we are. This is amazing".
Top of Koko Head, Hawaii Kai area of Honolulu, Oahu (sunset at 1400')

Note to self, don't go hiking when Earthquakes are "predicted to hit".
Cooks Bay hike, note dust rolling down cliff side. Hike today started at top right corner down to lower left just past cloud of dust. We would have been hurt and buried! (2000')
Hawaii Volcano's National Park, Volcano, Big Island Hawaii.Hot stuff 15feet behind me melted my binoculars in my backpack!
Diamond Head Crater, east side of Waikiki area via Kapiolani Park. Easy hike with wonderful views at lookout point. They just fixed and cleaned the path!
The mother of all hikes. Yet to attempt cause I don't have winter clothes!
Seriously, it reads 137lbs of lean beef jerky! (6pm)
The mother of all hikes. Yet to attempt cause I don't have winter clothes! Mauna Kea (White Mountain) 13, 796' with snow down to almost 9500'
Napapoo to Captain Cooks Monument via lava road.
Get some bouldering in. Note to self; don't do it again unless you want hands that look like raw hamburger meat when done!
Oh and loose some weight harvesting bamboo on my property!
Mother Nature at her best! Waipio Valley, Big Island Hawaii, Hamakua Coast.
Kualoa Ranch interior. Set of my LOST episode airing in Feb. Also set for Godzilla, Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates and many other movies.
This place is well guarded but I know how to get in!!
(same weight loss I had after Hawaii Ironman)
Lucky I didn't pass out on the hike! But I have my sweaty friend who would've carried me back up the 10,000 foot lava field! (just joking, she's not sweaty!)
I'm ready to eat a whole box of cereal tomorrow morning!
Oh wait, what should I do about dinner? A good salad would pack on the pounds! LOL!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, a box of cereal! AWESOME! Bring it on... princess!
I can not believe how much weight you lost, I gained! How come I always gain weight during Ironmans and hiking...???
Laters!
Don't worry about eating some good food. Try carrying a 50lb sack of potatoes on your back next time you go hiking and then you will realize what I have to carry around every day. Maybe that's why I feel more comfortable swimming than hiking. Still I really love the run up from the Captain Cook monument to Napapoo Road at the top.
I love the pictures!
Can't believe you lost so much- you're a man and LUCKY that way- never happens to a woman.
Do you people work over there or is it vacation-in Hawaii- 365 days a year? Geesh..... How about laundry? Do you do laundry? Forget about Disney. You live in the happiest place on earth. lol
