Winter Storm....

Okay, most mainland people laugh when I tell them we had a winter storm blow through Hawaii. This evening it is cold. Normally at 6pm it's around 78 but today it is 68 and down right chilly. I sit here writing this blog wearing a sweatshirt and drinking hot coco!

They sent us home early from work. It was like the good old days in Ohio when a true winter storm was brewing but dumping 8-12 inches of snow. Hawaii does have a winter storm warning for summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on big island. Snow accumulation up to 5 inches!! However, other spots around Hawaii have seen rain totally an astounding amounts of 8-10inches in 24-hours! Crazy! It was soooo dark at 3pm today I thought it was sunset!

At work today we were batten down the hatches and I was on the beach around 11am and lighting struck so close to me I stumbled back to safety wondering if I got struck. It was so damn close! It streaked horizontal across the ocean and then straight down into ocean. Only thing I could think of was that a Humpback Whale got hit by it. But I tell ya.....it was so close to me I ran up the beach so fast like Will Ferrel streaking through the quad in "Old School" the movie! (except I wasn't hungry and looking for KFC!!)

It's been raining non-stop in Kona since about 11am. Combine this with the drought the entire state has been in for many months you have flash flooding and some serious conditions. While Big Island seems to be spared the northern islands got hit hard!
Thank God it only snows on the summits cause we would be totally buried in the white stuff!

Tis the Season!

3pm outside my lanai. Raining hard and very dark! Time to read a good book! My camera actually caught the rain as it was falling! or is that a snow flake? hmmmmm

Some Oahu Beaches got hit very hard with debris and major run-off. We are under a "brown water warning". Take a guess what the brown is! Just don't go in the water tomorrow!!

Makaha Valley Road flooded (Oahu). City Bus attempts to cross! This sight is prevalent throughout Hawaii.

I hope the weather clears up and that it does not cause too much damage. It can't be much fun to get soaking wet all the time. Keep safe.
