14 years in Hawaii.....

"Ua mau ke ea o ka 'aina i ka pono"
The life of the land is preserved in righteouness
Hawaii State Motto
I've been in Hawaii for 14 Years and Hawaii celebrates by decorating King Kamehameha the Great statue located in North Kohala (Hawi) with 25 foot flowered leis!!

Actually, it's also King Kamehameha Day in Hawaii. We celebrate his birth and recoginze him for his greatness and as the cheif who reuninted the Hawaiian Islands in 1795.

His arm extends with open palm as if welcoming you into his home.
Aloha is an attitude, one that is positive and healthy, for Aloha is the value of unconditional love and acceptance.
Ohana is our family and is a human circle of complete Aloha.

Today is a great day in Hawaii. In 1994 I made the journey from Ohio to Hawaii. I found my home in Kona on the Big Island and soon fell in love with the lifestyle, the people and the Aina. (and weather!).

I've been very lucky over the years. I've met so many wonderful people. I've been to so many beautiful places on these islands. Hawaii is true paradise. Each island has its own character, style and landscape. I've embraced the Hawaiian lifestyle and respect the islands for their heritage & history. Hawaii has such a sense of place that no other location can match. I am here to stay and invite all my mainland friends to visit me and the islands. E komo Mai.
If you can't find me when you arrive head to the beach or search a fern forest in Volcano Village where I will be writing my book/journal or just soaking up the landscape!

Here is a 4 minute music video of some images over the years. I have a ton of photos and video but wish I could include all but back in 1994 we didn't have too many digital cameras or laptops around to save images etc. So, I'm sorry to my "old buddies' if you don't see your images cause I haven't scanned all these old images into my computer yet! Some video footage of Tahiti and Hawaii is short but it's the still photos that speak the most. Also, some images of places I've been on the mainland that I miss.
I look forward to meeting many more people in Hawaii.

Welcome to the Islands of Aloha.. ...Enjoy!

Nice P-Diddy...

All I can say is we have it good here! Not a lot of $, not a fancy home, BUT the land is breathtaking, family is great, and our friendships with the locals are better than any I have ever known! I wouldn't trade this life for all the dollars in the world!

Enjoy King K Day!

Hapuna beach is where I had my first swim race and let me tell you I did just about every stroke (even the side stroke) just to get through it.
Good memories and great times living here. Blending in with the hawaiin ways come so naturally...

P.s. the saturday yoga is a no go. I have to get to the resort earlier to teach...

I've always dreamed of Kona to race, but now the people and place has a different lure to it for me. You guys are blessed!!!

I remember that King Kam statue very well on some of my bike rides, and I often thought about him as I passed it. I first went 1993 for three months, then a month in 1994 then from 1999 until last year. In between we visited Palau, Guam and Saipan several times, but I certainly want to go back to Hawaii. I agree its not all about racing, and maybe I'd feel better living somewhere on the island that isn't Kona. I love the bike ride from Waimea straight to Kapa'au where the King Kam monument is. Nice cool air. Great video.
